Hi Dawna

Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours.

We are especially giving thanks for our "Rolly Polly Roy".   'Course we call
him "Pretty Boy Roy"  He has turned into a great big lovey dovey pal to both
Mary and me.

While he's not yet Ruger's level he's finding birds, pointing some birds and
finding downed birds.  And lovin" it!   A bit weak on the retrieving at this
point, but he's staying close, quartering niceley and using his snoot well.
Even got up a BIG wild turkey last Saturday.  That even scared me-first ever on
our farm.

He's is a bit uncomfortable riding in truck or car - maybe a bit
claustrophobic or gets car sick maybe.  He doesnt really get sick - just nervous.  Any
ideas?

Anyhow we love him dearly-right now it looks like two good pups in a row!

Thanks,

Steve/Mary Cary

Check out Roy's rear legs...CUTE!!

Hi Dawna:

You can go to uplandclassic.com to check out what kind of trials we hunt. As for his range I kind of have to bring him back to me every once in a while. He does like to get out and hunt for me, he has a natural quarter to him and he is starting to get the hang of the whistle and hand signals. As with all pointing breeds though he does need lots of birds in front of him, if all goes well by the end of bird season he will have had over 200 birds, that is if all goes as planned.

I will be sending you some pictures this evening. He really looks
good he is long, tall and lean his head is starting to get that big square head shape to it.

Hi Dawna –
Well, here we are at the 2 month mark.  And, well… she’s defective.
It seems she’s not really a dog at all, as dogs are considered “pets”.  What we have here is a hairy kidA member of the family.
A few funny things you should know about Scout:
We’re seriously considering petitioning to have her name changed to “Scout Get Down Leave It Good Girl”
She purrs.  No Seriously, when she’s content, she sits and groans this funny haunted house noise that we can only assume she’s learned from Yoda. She Purrs
She won’t go to sleep in her kennel without her stuffed frog that she suckles on and snuggles with
Her favourite toys are (in order):  Yoda, the chucker ball, the FLEA (stuffed, looks a little like Gonzo) and any pair of slippers I try to wear.
She potties on demand.  She also sits, lays down, shakes, rolls over and falls dead when you “shoot” her.
She loves the snow – as long as it isn’t falling, if its falling, she wants INSIDE NOW.
The quickest way to get Scout to stop what she’s doing and come to you is to open the dishwasher door.
She’s weighing 27 pounds now and she’s all legs and ears.  Her eyes have changed from blue to…. Weimy color.   I would say that she’s “daddy’s girl” but that’s really only because he’s the only one left with enough lap to hold her like the lap dog she is.
Tonight we’re off to a Christmas Party – Scout is invited too, there will be lots of other dog people there to keep her busy for a while.
The big drive to Connecticut will commence December 28th; we’re aiming to be in CT no later than January 5th.  We have to travel soon before Scout gets too big for the truck with everyone in it.
Cheers,
Timmie
What do you get when you cross a kitten with a Weimy Puppy?

Hi Dawna,

I finally got the pictures uploaded.  Took a bit of tweaking as Kodakgallery’s upload put all the pictures in separate albums.  First time that’s happened.

Zach and the kids get along great.  He’s currently trying to get up the climbing wall to be with them in the clubhouse of the playset.  I’m sure when he’s bigger he’ll make it.  We’ll have to teach him to go down the slide.  I’d rather he didn’t get up but I want him to know how to get down safely if it does.  I won’t be able to lift him down.  We had enough snow the other day to go sledding on our hill in the backyard.  He went down a couple times with me on the sled.  Most of the time he just raced next to the sledder.  The kids are happy that he loves to chase balls.  He’s even getting good about bringing them back.  They are not so happy that his exuberance at being with them outside has moved into jumping on them and biting.  This is very recent and we’re working on it.

Everyone’s favorite walk is in the woods.  Zach’s gotten brave enough to cross the stream by himself.  We only cross where it’s not very deep.  He’s still a little cautious about going outside by himself at night.  A couple days ago we had 50 mph winds.  My husband was trying to get him to go outside and lost control of him. Zach ran to the couch and jumped up on my legs to see if I would save him.  The problem was I had fallen asleep and wasn’t expecting 32 lbs of scared dog to jump up!  My husband has started calling him “pogo dog” as he bounces so much like a pogo stick.  Straight up on all four feet.

He just had his 16 week checkup and weighed 32 lbs.
We’re starting formal training in a couple weeks.  We’re going for private training as it works better with my schedule.

As you can tell, he’s well loved.  Thanks for such a great puppy.

Maile
Dawna,

I thought you would enjoy seeing the latest pics of Maile. One is of her first
hunt and the other is her relaxing on the hotel bed after a long day hunting.
My husband took her on 2 day long hunts over Thanksgiving up in ND. We have
pigeons in our barn that he has been using to train her. She is not quite there yet on pointing but she is still young and she LOVES birds. She is so so sweet and love her dearly. She is pretty spoiled.
Well, have a Merry Christmas and thank you for giving us such a wonderful puppy!

Jasper is such a wonderful dog! He has such a sweet and calm nature. He and his sister Phaedra hit it off right away and have been inseparable ever since. While he won't be a hunter (just a very spoiled house dog), he is very aware of birds - always seems to be on the lookout for them. Thanks for picking out such a great puppy for me - he is exactly what I wanted. Also, thanks for working with me on transporting him to North Dakota- I didn't think I was going to get his ride worked out but it was so great of you to drive to Helena to meet his "stork". He has been nothing but a joy since he arrived. I will keep you updated - he's growing fast!
